Nightime on the Forest River

by Ashley Wexler

This night upon the narrows I saw the world lie down and surrender,
the breaths from inside the river were deeper then mine,
The water shivered and penetrated through my transparent skin.
The stars and the spirits were around me,
I was among the horizon, darkness and nothingness.
The Coffee Bluff, the windy road and the hanging moss,
I felt the smallest rhythm and the entire web shook with intensity.
The wind rolled over the majestic one.
The ripple in the currents, a fish jumps, the smell of salt water.
I am whole in this presence.
The hums of the river and the pine.

Four souls all sitting, sharing in the emerald mists.
