CHRISTOPHER

Christopher at one year
Christopher, our second child, just turned five. Seems like yesterday that I found out I was pregnant with him. It was something totally unexpected. I guess the funniest thing about the pregnancy was that the doctor told us twice that the baby was going to be a girl. So of course, taking my doctor's authority and knowledge into consideration, we planned for a baby girl. My friends and family gave me "little girl" showers. The nursery was filled with frilly pink dresses, bows... all the girl stuff you could think of. Thanks to my husband, we did not paint the room pink. (He wouldn't let on, but) I think he was secretly hoping for a miracle.
Well, Chris received his miracle. On October 29th, as the doctors and nurses stood around, pink blankets in hand, this sweet little baby was born. The first thing I heard was not a weak infant's cry, but the nurse on my right exclaiming "IT'S A BOY!" "It's a what?" I asked. By that time the little baby was crying. Above his shrill wails, I started in on my doctor, "I thought you said... You told us... a boy?" His only response was, "I also told you that I wasn't God." That was painfully obvious.

This little boy has been a great miracle in my life. His life did not start out on the right foot. He was very ill for the first two years and no one could really give Chris and me a definitive reason why. We finally found a terrific doctor who diagnosed Christopher with severe allergies and asthma. After many tests, we also found out what caused all of his problems. We have been able to arrest the asthma and control the allergic reactions by changing his diet. After many sleepless nights, walking the floor with him and praying, I can truly say that God does answer prayers! Now Christopher is rarely sick. His face and body are free of eczema and thank God, he sleeps all night!
Christopher is very smart. He attends a local preschool and already can write his name and do simple math problems. I would tell you all the other amazing things he can do, but it would sound to you like bragging!
Anyway, my husband and I have big plans for Christopher. He keeps himself busy working with educational books, playing on the computer, helping with housework, yardwork and playing with his train set. Recently, he has become enamoured with Legos. I just love all those tiny pieces around the house! His dad is teaching him to play golf, baseball, basketball and football. I know he wants Christopher to be a professional athelete. The most enjoyable times for me are when Christopher performs for us. He can sing almost any song, and if you bribe him, he'll dance too! I think Christopher will be some type of entertainer--either that or a preacher, because he is outspoken and not shy. He loves to sing and be the leader.

I thank the Lord everyday for blessing us with Christopher--for his health, his personality and talents. I only hope that we, as his parents, can help him develop to his fullest potential.
