I was born February 26th, 1978, in Norwalk, Connecticut to teenage parents. My mother was a fourteen-year-old white American, my father a sixteen-year-old black American. Their relationship, unacceptable from the very beginning, was now over. In the course of their relationship my teenage parents managed to conceive me, share my birth, place me up for adoption, and then say goodbye to what might have been. On May 6th, 1978, I was placed in the care of my true mother (Shea) and father (Michael), in whose care I remained for the next eighteen years in New York. Upon entering my new family, my parents already had two boys (Barry 8 and Eddie 10) and now they had a baby girl. The special part is that they chose me, despite my sad medical conditions. When I was born the doctor claimed that I had several allergies, lactose intolerance, and a crooked foot, all of which would be expensive to correct. Well, like Forrest Gump, I wore braces on my legs from the ages of one to three to straighten my left leg. The lactose intolerance was always there; thus, I needed a special formula when I was a baby and avoided regular milk as much as possible (which I will have to do for the rest of my life). You might say I was deprived of one of the most nutritious junk foods a child could eat, ice cream. The allergies stayed dormant until I was nineteen and moved to Georgia.
When I was in the ninth grade I became a big sister, to my cute little brother Julian, whom I adore. There was a new baby in the house, but I was still a daddy's girl. I played basketball and ran track from the sixth grade up, and I played in the orchestra (the cello) from the third grade through the tenth. After that I took private lessons, only to realize that I no longer had the passion necessary to continue. In 1996, I became the first of my parents' children to attend college and, in 1999, the first to obtain a college degree. I am still currently a student at Armstrong Atlantic State University, in Savannah, Georgia, where I am majoring in English (Communications). I am presently a senior and plan to attend law school or graduate school in Spring 2001. How did I get to Georgia? Well, in 1997, I married a man whom I had known for a long time, my husband Marcus. Through marriage I have been adopted once again, but this time by Uncle Sam. I became a military wife, which has been a task in itself. Uncle Sam insisted that we move to Georgia and so we left our home in New York and came here.

I am outspoken, because I was taught to always express myself. Despite this fact, I am sensitive and tend to take things personally. I love all kinds of music and depend on the tunes to keep me awake on my long drives home from school. The music played is a reflection of my mood. I enjoy the company of friends, and I love writing, literature, and history. As far as my future is concerned, I am considering two options. The first is to attend law school, a long time dream of mine. The second stems from the influence of one of my favorite English professors, Dr. Karen Hollinger. Dr. Hollinger teaches critical theory and film; because of her, I have considered going to graduate school so that I may teach the same. Either way, furthering my education is definite and thus ensures success and happiness.
Friends and Classmates:
Sheri is one my closest classmates. This means that I do not mind spending time with her outside of class. Brenda and Turkesha are my two closest coworkers. Turkesha keeps a smile on my face in our hectic work environment, and Brenda reminds me that there is a greater purpose in life, that there is path for me to follow set forth by God. Deidre and Keysha are my two closest friends from New York, which is my hometown. Deidre is like my sister; she knows all and still loves me. Dorothy is my sweet and caring best girlfriend in Georgia, where I now live. Dorothy gets me through the good and the bad. She is genuine and I trust her more than anyone in this world. She makes me a better person and she also knows TOO much. My father, Michael, is also one of my best friends; he provides me with all the support and love a daughter could ask for. And last but certainly not least Marcus, my husband, is my best friend in this entire world. He is my rock and without him I would not be me.
